Disaster Relief Act, 2019 fails to pass U.S. House, again.
Washington, D.C. – For a second time in less than a week, and after a three day holiday weekend, the U.S. House attempted to pass a disaster relief bill and an another Senate Bill sent over from U.S. Senate, but they both failed to pass.
And, for the second time in as many days, the move was blocked by a Republican congressman. This time, Republican Thomas Massie of Kentucky’s 4th District objected and prevented the bill from passing. Rep. Massie stated like his counterpart last week, that since the members of the House were sent home for 10 days last week by the House leader Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, that the bill should not be voted on until all member return and vote on H.R. 2157 – Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Act, 2019
The U.S. House could try to vote again on Thursday, May 30th, 2019 at 4:30pm when the House opens again. Although its not expected to happen until the House reconvenes after a 10 day break called upon by House leader Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi last week. The day is June4th, 2019 and could be done via a roll call vote.
President Donald Trump is expected to sign the bill even though it does not contain money for a border wall and has said that he will sign a bill when congress sends him a disaster relief bill.
Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas blocked the bill last Friday for nearly the same reasons stated today by Congressman from Kentucky.
