‘Historical Journey up Cove Boulevard’ explores Glenwood community, businesses

PANAMA CITY, FL — Myron Hines, a Panama City author, will have a book signing event at Florida State University Panama City at 4 p.m. on Oct. 18.

After 48 years behind the camera in the broadcast television field, including WJHG TV-7 in Panama City Beach, Hines retired to begin a second career as an author. His novels include “Thin Air” (2006), “Shooter: A Search for Love and Justice” (2021), and “The Neighborhood” (2024).

Earlier this year, Hines also published a new edition of his 2020 book of photographs, “Historical Journey up Cove Boulevard in Panama City, Florida,” which is an exploration of his home neighborhood. The photo book shows Glenwood before a road-widening project that impacted area homes and businesses, changing the shape of the community. The retrospective features more than 60 color photos by Hines and includes a historical narrative by Robert Cain and Ivie Burch.

“Glenwood was the heart of the Black community,” Hines told The News Herald in 2020. “Whether you lived in Lynn Haven (or in other local areas), you always ended up on Cove Boulevard at one time or the other. The Mecca of the Black community was Cove Boulevard.”

Hines is appearing as part of the Illumination series of events at FSU Panama City, which provides opportunities to hear different viewpoints and learn from unique experiences. FSU PC is committed to providing a comprehensive calendar of events, workshops and forums throughout the year that encourages the community to engage in meaningful conversations and educational opportunities.

The book signing and sale will be in the Holley Academic Center, 4750 Collegiate Drive. Admission is free and open to the public. The first 50 guests to register will receive a copy of Hines’ photo book, “Historical Journey up Cove Boulevard.”

All of Hines’ books are also available on his website, MyronKHines.com as well as Amazon.com.
