2024 Florida Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday: June 1-15, 2024

PANAMA CITY, FL– The City of Panama City is encouraging residents to participate in both of Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday periods, lasting from June 1-15, 2024, and August 24-September 6, 2024. 

Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law House Bill 7073, which provides over $1 billion in tax relief for Floridians this year. The bill allows for two disaster preparedness holidays, to help families prepare for hurricane season. Essential items like tarps, generators, batteries, and flashlights will be tax-free during the holidays. 

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the sales tax holiday in early June and gather items for your hurricane kit in preparation of what may be a very active hurricane season. Atlantic hurricane season kicks off June 1 and lasts through November 30. 

Some items include, but are not limited to:

– Cans of wet cat/dog food ($10 or less)

– Manual can openers, collapsible/travel-sized food or water bows for pets, pet waste disposable bags ($15 or less)

– Reusable ice, leashes/collars/muzzles for pets, pet pads ($20 or less)

– Portable self-powered light sources, pet beds ($40 or less)

– Self-powered/two-way/weather-band radios, gas/diesel fuel tanks, batteries – including rechargeable, excluding boat or automobile ($50 or less)

– Nonelectric food storage coolers, portable power banks ($60 or less)

– smoke detectors/alarms, fire extinguishers, CO2 detectors ($70 or less)

– Tarpaulins or flexible waterproof sheeting, portable pet kennels ($100 or less)

– Portable generators to provide light or communications or preserve food in power outages ($3,000 or less)

The sales tax holiday does not apply to the rental or repair of any of the qualifying items. Additionally, the sales tax holiday does not apply to sales in a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport. Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday FAQs
