FDOT Traffic Advisory for Bay and Jackson Counties
Chipley, Fla. – Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Bay and Jackson counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.
Bay County:
Harrison Avenue (U.S. 231) Resurfacing from 6th Street to 15th Street – Drivers on Harrison Avenue will encounter intermittent lane closures through Thursday, Sept. 14 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for thermoplastic striping and signalization work. Advanced warning signs and traffic control devices will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
U.S. 98 Widening West of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue – U.S. 98 drivers may encounter day and nighttime intermittent east or westbound lane closures, between Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue and Louisiana Avenue, through September 30th.
State Road (S.R) 79 Resurfacing from U.S. 98 to the B.V. Buchanan (West Bay) Bridge – Northbound traffic on S.R. 79 will be reduced to one lane, from the U.S. 98 intersection to south of Escanaba Drive, through Friday, Sept. 22. Crews will be performing storm drainage, curb and gutter, and sidewalk work. In addition, the inside left turn lane from U.S. 98 eastbound to S.R. 79 northbound will be closed. The outside left turn lane will remain open.
· S.R. 388 from S.R. 79 to east of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport – S.R. 388 drivers will encounter nighttime intermittent lane closures through Friday, Sept. 15 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for asphalt friction course placement. Intermittent lane closures may occasionally occur between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Traffic at the S.R. 79/Margaritaville Watersound intersection will be affected. Advanced warning signs and traffic control devices will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
· Hutchison Boulevard (Middle Beach Road) Resurfacing from U.S. 98A (Front Beach Road) to U.S. 98A (Front Beach Road) – Drivers will encounter daytime intermittent lane closures beginning 8 a.m. through Friday, Sept. 15 between Clara Avenue and the Churchwell Drive/South Glades Trail intersection as crews perform sidewalk and drainage construction activities. Advanced warning signs and traffic control devices will assist in directing motorists through the work area.
· S.R. 390 Widening from Jenks Avenue to S.R. 77 – Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures for paving work through Thursday, Sept. 14, from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be paving at all S.R. 390 intersections from Maine Avenue to Florida Avenue.
· U.S. 98 Widening from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street – The speed limit on U.S. 98 (Panama City Beach Parkway) from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street in Bay County has been reduced to 35 mph. The speed limit reduction comes as construction crews are set to begin widening this section of the roadway from four to six travel lanes.
· U.S. 98 Lighting Operations at the Hathaway Bridge – Drivers will encounter alternating east and westbound lane closures through Friday, Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for lighting replacement.
Jackson County:
· U.S. 90 Resurfacing from Chipola River Bridge to east of S.R. 71 South – Motorists will encounter intermittent daytime westbound lane closures through Friday, Sept. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for paving operations.
All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to the reduced speed limit when traveling through the construction area, to watch for construction equipment entering and leaving the roadway, and to use caution when driving through the work zone. Speeding fines double when workers are present.
