GCSC Health Sciences Hosts Interdisciplinary Simulation Event

PANAMA CITY, FL – On October 30-31, 2024, students from Gulf Coast State College’s (GCSC) Health Sciences programs, including nursing, physical therapy assistant, sonography, radiography, respiratory, and surgical services, will come together to participate in an interdisciplinary event. This simulation-based event, held at GCSC’s Panama City Campus in the Health Sciences building, is designed to give students a hands-on, collaborative experience, mimicking real-world challenges and fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills that are critical in healthcare settings.

The event consists of two daily sessions: a morning session from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST, and an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. CST. During each session, students will work in interdisciplinary teams, tackling a series of realistic scenarios and health care challenges, such as patient care coordination and effective communication across specialties. By working side-by-side, participants gain a better understanding of each other’s roles and responsibilities, which prepares them for the collaborative nature of modern healthcare environments.

The goal of the event is to empower GCSC students with practical skills that will benefit them in their future careers, enhancing both their confidence and competence. Additionally, students gain insight into the complexities of healthcare delivery and the importance of seamless coordination in patient care.

This annual event serves as a capstone experience for GCSC’s health sciences students, providing them with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a dynamic and supportive environment. It is one more way GCSC is working to ensure that graduates are ready to meet the needs of the healthcare field as skilled, collaborative, and compassionate professionals.
