Franklin County Government to offer Sand and Bags to Residents
WKGC Storm Center – Franklin County residents and visitors are being reminded by county officials that now is the time to prepare for a potential hurricane or tropical storm make a presence to the area. Officials stress there is no need to panic; it is still too early to make definitive predictions regarding the storm’s path or intensity. Franklin County Emergency Management is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates based on information received from the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Franklin County officials would like to remind residents that this is an opportune moment in time to check and replenish your disaster supply kits. When purchasing necessary items, please be mindful that others will be acquiring similar supplies, so avoid excessive purchasing.
Franklin County Officials would like to residents to note that Emergency Operations Center (EOC) does not issue re-entry tags once activated. If you possess a driver’s license with a Franklin County address, you are covered. If not, be sure to bring documentation that demonstrates property ownership or residency in the county when returning to the area, if an evacuation is ordered.
Sandbag distribution locations will open:
- September 24th, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
This will allow residents to prepare for the possibility of flooding from a storm. Franklin County Officials say they are no longer providing filled sandbags; but they will have empty bags and sand available at each location, but you will need to bring your own shovel.

- The Old State Yard- 1090 Bluff Rd, Apalachicola, FL
- Vrooman Park- 30 6th St, Eastpoint, FL
- Old Courthouse Annex – 1647 HWY 98, Carrabelle, FL
- SGI Firehouse – 324 E Pine Ave, St. George Island, FL
