Old Sentry Support
Old Sentry Gets a New Lift at Oaks by the Bay Park
PANAMA CITY, FL – Old Sentry is getting the support it needs with the help of our arborist and Gulf Coast Tree Specialists. The crew worked to alleviate some weight from the tree and move a 6,000-pound log via crane under the large and heavy, north-facing limb.
The lean of the tree has become a concern since Hurricane Michael. In order to better support the tree and keep it standing tall and proud, the City has decided upon an innovative, brace-like system using the trunk of another tree in St. Andrews. The brace of the tree will become the next piece of art for the park too, with plans for a unique carving and sculpture-like design.
Old Sentry remains a symbol of strength and resilience in our community. May this new use of nature as a support system also remind us of the way we care for each other in Panama City.
