Dylan, the most popular name, saw 7,505 births in 2023, with 451 girls and 7,054 boys. This gender-neutral name of Welsh origin means “son of the sea” or “born from the ocean.”

Lily, the second most popular name, had 6,146 births. The name Lily is associated with summer blooms and purity, stemming from its Latin origin and symbolic connection to innocence.

Parker, the third most popular name, had 6,085 births in summer 2023, with 2,293 boys and 3,792 girls. This unisex name of English origin means “park keeper.” Popular in the 19th century, Parker has made a strong comeback.

Isla, meaning “island,” is the fifth most popular summer baby name, with 5,357 girls and six boys named Isla last year.

Rounding out the top ten are Eliana, Kai, River, Ryder, and Iris.

Jason Hennessey, CEO of Hennessey Digital, commented on the study findings:

“Summer evokes happiness, vacations, and relaxation, which many parents wish to associate with their child’s name. Unique names are becoming more desirable as parents move away from common names.

“Personal journeys often influence name choices, reflecting cultural heritage, family traditions, or aspirations for the child’s future.

“Unisex names are trending as society embraces gender fluidity and moves away from traditional gender roles.

“Dylan, the most popular name, is linked with positive traits like charisma, creativity, and intelligence, and is shared by well-known figures such as Dylan Bruce and Bob Dylan.”
