Bay County Transit Offering Free Rides for National Dump the Pump Day
Community encouraged to save money and reduce gas usage by riding the bus on June 20
Panama City, FL– This Thursday, Bay County Transit is partnering with transit systems nationwide to celebrate Dump the Pump Day, an annual initiative that highlights the benefits of public transportation. Whether residents are regular or first-time riders, they are invited to hop on board a Bayway bus to experience the ease and affordability of their local transit system. To encourage participation, Bayway is offering free rides on all bus routes this Thursday, June 20.
“Dump the Pump is a great opportunity for community members to try incorporating public transportation into their daily routines,” said Lamar Hobbs, Transit Program Administrator of the Bay County Board of County Commissioners. “Public transit provides both residents and visitors with a cost-effective alternative to explore our local community, while saving money and promoting environmental sustainability. Commuters can also use this free time to catch up on reading, plan out their schedules, or respond to emails. We hope everyone will join us this Thursday for a car-free day and instead choose to ride Bayway.”
National Dump the Pump Day began in 2006 to increase awareness of public transportation as a convenient and affordable travel alternative. According to the American Public Transportation Association’s most recent Transit Savings Brief, riders can save more than $13,000 each year using public transit, rather than allocating those funds to auto expenses and gas. Communities that invest in public transportation can also help reduce the nation’s carbon emissions by 63 million tons annually
