Panama City Beach’s Bulk Garbage Solution
Panama City Beach, FL– Who hasn’t had an old dishwasher or recliner they need to dispose of? A new pilot project will make it much easier for Panama City Beach residents to dispose of unwanted furniture, fencing, or appliances and is important in helping to keep our beautiful beach community clean.
The City has officially launched a bulk garbage pilot program, which provides curbside pickup for large, bulky items that can be difficult for residents to dispose of. The City will utilize its three debris trucks for the free program which is the brainchild of Mayor Mark Sheldon.
Here’s a breakdown of the key points of the program:
- What can be picked up: Furniture, appliances, fencing (broken into pieces), and construction materials (lumber, tile, carpet).
- How to request pickup: Go to pcbfl.gov/seeclickfix and click on the SeeClickFix link to submit a pickup request. Residents may also download the SeeClickFix app on their phones. There is a navigable map to show the pickup location, then click on Bulk Waste Pickup as the category.
- Scheduling: Please allow up to two days for City staff to contact you regarding a pickup date. Items should be placed on the curb no more than two days before the agreed pickup date.
It’s important to remember that since this is a pilot project, there are some limitations. The City can only pick up two items at a time and no more than three cubic yards of stacked material. Residents are limited to three pickup requests per year.
This service is not available to contractors, commercial businesses, condos, or apartment complexes. The City will not pick up household trash, hazardous materials or yard waste as part of this program.
“This pilot project is two-fold in purpose,” said Mayor Sheldon. “First, it allows us to clean up our City and keep it free from unsightly debris, while lessening the burden on our Code Enforcement staff who work daily to make sure the world’s most beautiful beaches are clean.
“But it also provides a convenient disposal method for our residents. We understand, not everyone can haul a large piece of furniture to the landfill.”
Other program guidelines include:
- Debris should not be placed in the road or on the sidewalk.
- Debris should be placed on the ground away from obstacles such as trees, power lines and fire hydrants.
- Loose matter should be stacked or piled.
- Awkward shaped items like a sectional sofa, should be taken apart.
- Appliance doors must be taped shut and Freon responsibly removed by a certified technician from refrigerators and air conditioning units.
Please note if you are putting in a SeeClickFix request for bulk garbage pickup and it diverts you to a Utility request, it is because the address you entered is outside the City limits. This program is only for those within the City limits of Panama City Beach. Click here for a map of the City limits.
