GCSC Students Win Top Prize in BEA Film Contest
GCSC Digital Media Students Receive Top Recognition in BEA Film Competition
Panama City, FL— Gulf Coast is proud to share its digital media students were presented the “Award of Excellence” in the 2023 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) 48 Hour Film Competition.
The team consisted of six digital media students who participated in the challenge, creating a short film with only 48 hours to complete. Each participating team was randomly assigned a genre and accompanying elements, such as a specific character, prop, or line of dialogue, and then tasked with organizing cast and crew, scouting/securing film locations, developing the script, and shooting the film.
“We had such a limited time to make the film,” said Keelsey Walker, Digital Media A.S. student. “I really enjoyed working under that pressure because it forced us to take our thoughts out of it and just make it happen.”
Despite the challenge, the efforts of students Randy Aikens, Cameron Colabella, Tyler Daugherty, Ryant Johnson, Rebecca Starke, and Keesley Walker proved successful, as the six-person team and their film “Sugarloaf” earned them the Award of Excellence and secured them a spot among the top nine of 20 participating colleges.
