“When we think of necessities for our growing families, diapers are high on the list. The economy has been tough the past few years, and the demand for diaper assistance has increased. Through the Junior League of Panama City we are helping over 180 children a month with their diaper needs. Please stop by our local Diaper Drive drop off locations and help us help the children in the community during National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 18th-24th,” Virginia Lassiter, Diaper Bank Chair.
With its inception in 2015, Diaper Bank has offered year-round community support to families, and has distributed hundreds of thousands of diapers, training pants and wipes to hundreds of families in need throughout Bay County.
“The Junior League of Panama City is driven to support women and children in Bay County. The Diaper Bank is one of our outreach programs that ensures local families have the basic-needs to live a healthy lifestyle,” Jennie Frey, JLPC President.
Diaper Need Awareness Week is an initiative of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), to provide individuals, organizations, communities, and elected officials the opportunity to engage in efforts to help make a difference in the lives of the nearly 5.3 million babies in the U.S. ages three or younger who live in low-income families. Based on recent U.S. Census data and research in this area, an estimated 1,800 children in Bay County are affected by diaper needs. On average, The Junior League of Panama City Diaper Bank gives out around 4,000 diapers to approximately 1,000 children every month.
