Staying Cool in Bay County!

Bay County, FL- As temperatures continue to soar, Bay County is taking proactive steps to ensure the well-being of its residents. In response to an expected heat index of 108 degrees or higher on both Friday and Saturday, Bay County Emergency Management, along with its partners, has decided to reopen the cooling center located at the Bay County Fairgrounds in Panama City.

The cooling center, situated off U.S. 98, will be operational from noon to 5 p.m. on August 18th and 19th. This facility, nestled within the American Legion Post 66 building at the fairgrounds (2230 15th St., Panama City), will provide individuals with a much-needed escape from the outdoor heat. Here, they can access both water and air conditioning, allowing them to find respite from the scorching temperatures.

For those seeking transportation to the cooling center, Bayway Transit is available for assistance. Reach out to them at (850) 215-7226 or (850) 215-0607, or consider utilizing Route 3. Additionally, if you’re looking for more details about the Bay County Cooling Center, don’t hesitate to contact 211.

The center is also calling for donations of floor fans to enhance its services during this critical period. If you’re willing to contribute a floor fan, please connect with us through the same 211 number.

This essential initiative is a result of the collaborative efforts of various entities. The Cooling Center is brought to you in partnership with Bay County Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, Bay County CERT, and receives support from the Department of Health in Bay County, Bayway Public Transit System, Bay County Government, Coca Cola United Panama City, Rebuild Bay County, Inc., Pastors United, and the Central Panhandle Fair in Bay County.

As the community pulls together to address the challenges posed by extreme temperatures, the reopening of the Cooling Center stands as a testament to the care and preparedness that Bay County holds for its residents.
