Orlando, FL Rep. Anna V. Eskamani has revealed that People Power For Florida (PPFF) is set to orchestrate the third edition of Dorm Storms – a week-long voter registration event held across seven college and university campuses in Florida.

As the fall semester commences, People Power for Florida is gearing up to empower students with the tools to register and cast their votes for the first time. The Dorm Storms initiative is designed to assist students in registering, updating their voter information to reflect their new campus addresses, and foster significant dialogues about democracy in Florida. The campuses involved this year are: FAMU, FSU, UF, UCF, USF, FIU, and Eastern Florida State College.

PPFF founder and State Representative Anna V. Eskamani emphasized, “I got my start in advocacy on a college campus and it’s essential that we meet with students one-on-one to make sure they’re ready and registered to vote.”

During the Dorm Storms event, dedicated staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist incoming students with both in-person and online voter registration processes. Furthermore, volunteers will be available to address voting-related queries, and provide students with additional pathways for civic engagement.

Juan Ardila, Organizing Director of People Power for Florida, highlighted the significance of Dorm Storms, stating, “Dorm Storms are a great opportunity for students to get more politically involved and we are excited to work with our new Organizing Fellows to engage students on their campuses. This is our biggest year of dorm storms yet–and it’s only the start of our campus organizing efforts this fall.”

This development follows a series of Organizing Bootcamps, training sessions aimed at equipping students with the skills to mobilize and effectively engage their peers. These sessions were conducted at UCF, UF, and FSU, with a fourth training slated for Florida International University in Miami come October.

For those interested in delving deeper into the realm of dorm storms, online registration and event details are accessible at peoplepowerforflorida.com/events.

In 2022, People Power for Florida managed to collect an impressive 5,013 voter registration forms, building on the momentum of nearly 9,000 forms gathered since its inception in 2021. The year 2023 sees People Power Florida continuing its mission of voter registration and expanding its scope to emerge as a premier source for Florida-centric voter education.
