Watch out, Bay County residents – a sneaky new package delivery scam is making the rounds via text message.
Scammers are sending texts pretending to be from USPS, FedEx or other carriers claiming there’s an issue delivering your package due to a wrong address. They’ll ask you to click a link and enter personal information to “correct” the address. Don’t fall for it!
Lynn Haven Mayor Jesse Nelson almost got reeled in when he was expecting a real delivery around the same time. He was shocked the texts used official-looking USPS branding and wording. Rest assured, they’re 100% fake.
Dispatchers and postal workers, along with some area officers reported concerned calls to the Lynn Haven Police. Officials believe the area is being deliberately targeted. They want to inform locals about the parcel scam to prevent victims.
Folks who order online frequently may be prime targets. As Chief Ramie tells it, people often fall for these scams when they’re anxiously awaiting a package. If you get a fishy text, report it as spam and block the number right away. Don’t click on any links! Delete the message completely.
If you’re unsure if a text is legitimate, reach out to the Lynn Haven Police Department. They’re happy to help determine if it’s a scam. If you shared information, contact your bank immediately to close compromised accounts.
Here’s the scary part – even if scammers don’t take money now, they’ll use your details later. They may do a small test charge first. Then months down the road they’ll strike again when you’re not expecting it.
Stay vigilant against these slithering scams, friends. Don’t let them deliver trouble to Bay County. We can stop them together!
