McQueen Appointed to Steer Bay District Schools Into the Future
Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Mark McQueen as the new Superintendent of Bay District Schools. This came after previous Superintendent Bill Husfelt announced his impending retirement on July 31, 2023, before finishing his term in 2024.
McQueen brings over 30 years of robust leadership and education experience to the superintendent role. He most recently served as City Manager of Panama City, where he was instrumental in spearheading the city’s recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael’s devastation in 2018. Under his focused guidance, Panama City made major strides in rebuilding and restoring the community. McQueen earned widespread recognition as a decisive leader who could unite people to tackle complex problems.
Before leading Panama City, McQueen had an accomplished 36-year military career, retiring as a Major General in the U.S. Army after being deployed worldwide. He received multiple distinguished awards for his service. McQueen will embark on his new role as Superintendent on August 1, 2023, taking the helm of Bay County schools.
Filling McQueen’s shoes as Panama City Manager is Mark Post, promoted from assistant manager. Post expressed eagerness to maintain Panama City’s upward trajectory into the future.
