Basic Weather Spotter Training Class by National Weather Service, at Gulf Coast State College

Tornado causes damage in Panama City in March 18th, 2022

Panama City, Florida – Have you ever thought about becoming a weather storm spotter? Have you ever seen a tornado, large hail, and wonder if you should report it? How do you report it, or where do you report it, and what do you report? How can you help others when severe weather is happening? That’s where a certified spotter weather training class could help you by teaching you about severe weather. The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee, Florida is offering a basic spotter training class, for free, and it’s being offered in Panama City, at Gulf Coast State College.

On June 17th, 2023 from 10am to noon, the NWS Weather Forecast Office Tallahassee will be offering the basic storm spotter class in-person at Gulf Coast State College in the Sarzin Lecture Hall. The class is free and open to the public, no registration for in-person attendees. The class will be taught by a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, who will teach things such as basic storm definitions, thunderstorm basics, severe weather features, and how to stay safe when storm spotting.

The class will also show you the available methods to report severe weather to the National Weather Service, including using digital media technology. The role of the storm spotter is to serve as the eyes and ears of the NWS during severe weather situations.
