Remembering “Boomer Bill” at WKGC

William "Boomer Bill" Isham Cordell Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. William Isham Cordell, Jr. better known as WKGC’s “Boomer Bill.” Bill has been part of the WKGC family since 2015, as he hosted several shows on-air over the last 8 years. He was a light to be around and a friend to all of us. He knew how to make everyone laugh with a fun joke, often at the expense of himself or whichever DJ was nearby.

Bill’s passion for rock and roll music and the desire to share his knowledge of the genre with future generations truly came through on “Boomer Bills Rock and Roll Radio Hour” and “The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge” radio shows.

Through Rock and Roll Radio Hour, Bill hosted a two-hour show Monday through Friday that, ‘reminded baby boomers about their youth but also to keep the music alive so younger generations will carry it forward.” (wkgc.org) The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge was a two-hour show hosted every Friday night. This is the show where Boomer Bill took a deeper look into the life, times and music of the early baby boomer generation. He said, “It is like going back to school and studying Rock and Roll.” (wkgc.org) Bill connected all of us back to the music of the 60’s and we will be forever grateful for his desire to preserve this era for all of us today.

“Boomer Bill” will remain in our hearts forever at WKGC. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and our listeners who dearly loved him.

There will be a tribute tomorrow, Tuesday, May 23rd at 9:00 am CDT on 90.7 FM WKGC. You can listen on the dial or our website, by going here.
