SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL LIBRARY CARD SIGN UP MONTH
(PANAMA CITY, FL) – September is Library Card Sign-up Month when libraries nationwide join the American Library Association (ALA) to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. Libraries play a crucial role in the education and development of children, offering a variety of programs to spark creativity and stimulate an interest in reading and learning. Through access to technology, media resources, and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides individuals of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams, explore new passions and interests, and find their voice. Here is a glimpse at what is available through the Northwest Regional Library System (NWRLS) with your library card.
You can check out 20 physical items at a time for up to three weeks:
Library materials include books, audiobooks, DVDs, ukuleles, mountain dulcimers, telescopes, cookbooks, graphic novels, Wonderbooks (picture books with Read-Aloud audiobook player), and Launchpads (Early Literacy Game Device).
You can check out an additional 5 eBooks or audiobooks through the Libby App:
Get downloadable eBooks, Audiobooks, and over 3,000 eMagazines through the Libby by Overdrive app. Sign in by selecting Panhandle Library Access Network (PLAN). Then you’ll select Northwest Regional Library System as your library. Login with your library card number and PIN. The titles will go to the next borrower automatically after your three-week checkout. The eMagazines do not count as part of the 5 checkouts and can be viewed immediately. There are no late fees through the Libby app.
Your NWRLS library card allows you to check out countless comics through ComicsPlus:

With Comics Plus, you have unlimited access to thousands of digital comics, graphic novels, and manga from a variety of library-friendly publishers. Every title is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on your computer, tablet or phone—no holds or wait lists required. Comics for all ages!
The Library is for everyone:
Throughout the Northwest Regional Library System, patrons of all ages can find a variety of educational resources and activities, from pre-school storytimes, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programming for kids, teen programs, and adult continuing education classes and book clubs.
“Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children,” says Sarah Burris, Northwest Regional Library System. “In addition to a variety of children’s educational programming, it is encouraged to read a minimum of 15 minutes a day to your child for early literacy and develop a love of books at a young age. The library collection has a slew of titles to enhance school assignments!”
NWRLS has branches in Panama City, Panama City Beach, Parker, Port St. Joe, Wewahitchka, Bristol, and Hosford. A library card is free for all residents of Bay, Gulf, and Liberty County. Visit your NWRLS location with proof of residency and photo ID to pick up a library card. An annual fee card is available for non-residents for $15.
