Rachel Hillman, a professional musician from Tallahassee joined Caleb Jordan and Dana Erskine on The Mix this morning. We asked her about what it was like to be a touring musician and being a part of the “gigging life” as Rachel says. Her original song, In the Evenin’ was something she wrote about missing someone and coming home to see them after a long day.
Rachel performed her original song, In the Evenin’, which can be found on her most recent album, Influences.

Segment 2: Rachel Hillman sings "A Place Where We All Can Eat"
On our second break, we talked to Rachel about how she began her career as a musician. She moved to Tallahassee when she was 13 and began a choir class at her school. It was there that Rachel began working with her voice teacher, Carla Connors for the next 3 years. In college, she was going to learn about opera before she found Jazz and the music theory involved.
In this break, Rachel performed her swing inspired song, “A Place Where We All Can Eat.”
Segment 3: Rachel Hillman Talks About Teacher Appreciation Week
This week is Teacher Appreciation week here in Bay County and Bay District Schools have been doing something special for our teachers each day this week, as well. Each day you can nominate your favorite teacher for them to be put in a drawing for giveaways. Rachel says that her teachers have had a massive influence on her life, and helped shaped her curiosity for the details behind the music.
