Steve King and Johnnie Putman on the Morning Mix
WKGC Studio – Radio legends Steve King and Johnnie Putman join the Mix crew for a chat about the freshly refurbished FM studio, the passing of local recording engineer JJ Crews, a Vitamin B tribute to Doris Day, and the AMC Pacer.
WKGC is finally back in our main FM studio in the third floor of Gulf Coast State College’s Advanced Technology Center. Thanks to Michael, WKGC has been broadcasting from a converted office lovingly called the Broom Closet Studio that once housed the AlterNation, the student radio station.
However, over the last few months we have completed the Alternation Fishbowl Studio in Student Union East with industry standard equipment for our students to learn on as well as WKGC’s former and current home; Studio Pi in room 314 of the ATC. It feels good to make progress.
Tom speaks on the passing of JJ Crews. Owner and recording engineer for Callaway’s Boogie Tracks, JJ had a phenomenal career spanning twenty years, locations from California to Boston, and has worked with artists like DJ Khaled, Lil John, Akon, and local musicians like Radio Cosmos’ very own Mike Thompson.
Doris Day passed Monday May 13th, 2019. Doris was good friends with Paul McCartney so today’s Vitamin B was her covering Octopus’s Garden.
To close the show, Tom says that you can’t truly get the most out of Bohemian Rhapsody unless you listen to it in an AMC Pacer. A whole discussion about the song and the car ensues .
