President Donald Trump Amends Florida Disaster Declaration

Washington, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump made additional disaster assistance available to the State of Florida by authorizing an increase in the level of Federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures undertaken in the State of Florida as a result of Hurricane Michael.

On October 14, 2018, President Trump authorized a 100 percent Federal cost share for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, for a period of five days of the State of Florida’s choosing.

Under the President’s order, Federal funds for debris removal and emergency protective measures are authorized at 100 percent of the total eligible costs for a period of 45 days from Hurricane Michael’s landfall.

Acting FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor announced that on Saturday, the President made additional assistance available for the state of Florida’s Hurricane Michael recovery efforts.

This approval allows for 100 percent retroactive federal funding to cover all costs for debris removal, emergency protective measures and direct federal assistance from Oct. 10 to Nov. 24, 2018. 

The President previously approved a 100 percent federal cost share adjustment for debris removal, emergency protective measures and direct federal assistance for a five-day continuous period of the state’s choosing.

The federal cost share returns to 75 percent following Nov. 24, 2018 for all emergency and permanent Public Assistance grants.

Since Hurricane Michael, FEMA has provided more than $137 million in grants to survivors. Additionally, more than $195.7 million in flood insurance claims have been paid, and more than $624.4 million of low-interest loans to survivors and businesses. FEMA has also obligated more than $5.5 million in Public Assistance grants.
